Frequently asked questions
The five things an SMB owner asks before signing up.
Outsourcing IT operations to an AI-native platform is a real handoff, and it deserves real answers. Below are the objections we hear most from sub-100-seat teams — and how Helmswell handles each one.

Pricing is per monitored asset — endpoints, cloud accounts, and databases — so the monthly invoice tracks what is actually in scope, not hours a technician logged. There is no separate fee for an after-hours page or a Sunday incident; 24/7 coverage is included in the per-asset rate.
We will sketch a per-asset number for your stack in the first call so you know the range before signing anything, and the bill stays flat inside that range as long as your environment does. The cost math against a fractional IT partner or break-fix MSP is on the /compare page.

Trust comes from boundaries, not vibes. Every agent action is bounded by an authority envelope — environment, action class, blast radius, and time window — and anything outside that envelope is escalated to a human with a timeline and a recommended next step.
Onboarding starts in a read-only, side-by-side tenant so you watch what the agents would do before you give them write authority. Every action is replayable, every change has an audit-grade log, and reverts take seconds — so the worst case is a one-click undo, not an outage.

Helmswell runs tenant-isolated: in your cloud account, or in a tenant we operate on your behalf, with strict logical separation between customers. You retain ownership of logs, alerts, audit trails, and any operational artefacts produced on your behalf — export is straightforward, not a hostage negotiation.
We do not train models on your operational data. The agents that run on your environment are the same agents that run on every environment, and they get better from aggregate patterns, not your records — your stack stays your stack.

The agent takes the obvious safe action — snapshot, throttle, page out — then escalates with the full context your engineer would otherwise have to assemble by hand. The escalation includes the timeline, the logs that matter, the blast radius, and a recommended next step, so the on-call person is making a decision, not reading from scratch.
For in-envelope issues the agents close them themselves — patches, restarts, and reverts land in about four minutes on median, with a written note in the audit log. Out-of-envelope issues land in a senior engineer's queue with the context already attached; you can see that flow on /compare alongside the rest of the operations surface.

A human MSP bills for the people and the hours — monthly minimums, per-seat RMM surcharges, hourly incident tickets, and the long tail of work that nobody on your team has the context to take. Helmswell flips that on its head: the same operations outcome, billed per monitored asset, with an agent mesh taking the first swing at routine incidents and a senior engineer taking only the work that genuinely needs a human.
You can keep a strategic IT partner for projects and use Helmswell for the 24/7 “who is on call” work — most sub-100-seat customers do exactly that. The /compare page walks through what that looks like in dollars and in coverage window for a team your size.

Yes. Helmswell reads from the tools you already run — MDM like Intune or Jamf for endpoints, your IdP / SSO for identity, and your cloud account (AWS, Azure, or GCP) for the compute layer — and sits on top as the on-call layer. Nothing is ripped out, nothing is migrated, and nothing is double-billed.
Integrators run as read-only watching the existing surface for signals; agents act inside your existing tools using the credentials and policies already configured. The first three weeks are mostly connector setup, not a tool replacement — and there is no obligation to consolidate later if you decide a piece is working as-is.
